Old timer on a job in Denver taught me something about finishing concrete in the rain

I was working a big driveway pour in Denver last spring and this guy named Frank, must have been 70 years old, just watched me panic when the rain started. He said 'son, stop fighting the water and work it into the surface, it'll give you a smoother finish than any trowel.' I tried it and honestly the slab came out perfect, no pitting at all. Anyone else ever get a weird tip from an older finisher that actually made your life easier?

Used to think fighting the rain was the only way to get a decent finish. Frank's trick sounds crazy but I bet it works, gonna try it next time the sky opens up on me.

Nah man, I've tried that and got nothing but orange peel on my fenders.
