Old timer at the supply yard told me my mix was too wet

I was pouring a patio in Phoenix last July and a guy who's been doing this since the 70s watched me mix and said 'that's gonna crack in a week, too much water.' I brushed him off but sure enough three days later I had hairline cracks everywhere. Has anyone else had to totally re-learn their water ratio after getting called out like that?

Stick your finger in the mix and if it glistens youre adding way too much water.

Depends what you're making though. Some doughs need to be wet. Like ciabatta or focaccia. That stuff should look almost like batter before you bake it.
