Old foreman told me my broom finish was backwards in Tulsa last month

I always dragged the broom toward me but he said push it away to keep the lines cleaner. Tried it on a 40 yard driveway and the texture came out way more even. Anyone else get taught the wrong way and had to unlearn it?

Wait, they teach people to drag the broom toward them in Tulsa? That's wild, I learned the push-away method from my first boss in Texas back in 2012 and never looked back. Dragging it toward you leaves those drag marks that look like zebra stripes, especially if your concrete is a little dry. Pushing it away lets the bristles comb the cream in one direction and the finish comes out way cleaner. Your old foreman must have been one of those guys who swears by the old ways even when theyre wrong.

Oh man, I had the exact same problem when I started out. That old "drag it toward you" habit is so hard to break once it's stuck in your muscle memory. Pushing the broom away really does give you a way more even finish with less of those ugly drag lines. Took me about three jobs before I stopped instinctively pulling the broom back toward my feet halfway through a pass. The foreman was right on this one, pushing just gives you a cleaner look every time.
