My $40 light pole float gave out on the third pour - what a waste

I bought one of those cheap plastic light pole floats from a supply shop in Des Moines to help level a 50 yard driveway job and it cracked under the wet concrete by the second wheelbarrow load. Tried to patch it with duct tape on site but it just sank and we had to rework the whole grade by hand. Anyone got a brand of those floats that actually holds up for more than a day?

You're thinking about this all wrong. It's not about the brand, it's the plastic itself. That cheap stuff gets brittle in the sun before you even pour. Try a metal rod with a homemade plywood float instead. Costs less than ten bucks and won't quit on you.

Haven't tried it myself but heard the Magnehelic brand ones hold up way better for heavy pours?
