Had to choose between a $25 magnesium float and a $60 stainless steel one
Picked the stainless over my partner's advice and after a 90 foot driveway pour in Phoenix I spent the whole day fighting drag while the sun cooked me, anyone else get talked into a tool that just made the job harder?

Oh man, that sounds brutal. I made a similar mistake last year when I bought a cheap trowel set because the price was right, and the handles kept slipping off in the middle of a slab. Ended up using a roommate's old wooden handled one and it worked way better. Sometimes the fancy looking stuff just isn't worth the hassle when you're in the thick of it.

Three trips to Home Depot in one afternoon is my personal record for exactly this kind of junk. My toolbox is basically a graveyard of "great deal" tools that fell apart after one use.
