A homeowner in Dayton told me my bull float was 'cheating' and I still think about it

Poured a 20x30 patio for a retired machinist last spring. He watched me run the bull float and said real finishers use a magnesium trowel from the start. I laughed it off, but he had a point about texture control on hot days. I tried his way on a 12 yard slab in July and the surface came out way tighter. Has anyone else had a customer teach them something that actually worked better than the standard route?

Magnesium trowels actually pull cream faster than bull floats, not the other way around.
