Why does nobody talk about the smell of old server rooms
Walked into a client's closet-sized server room last Tuesday and the mix of hot dust and burnt hair made me check my own back pocket for a dead psu, has anyone else ever had to fight the urge to turn a site shutdown into a fire drill?

“Burnt hair” got me good lol. I once walked into a closet server room and legit thought my own phone battery was melting in my pocket, turned out it was just the absolute swamp of hot dust and Ozone. My go-to move now is holding my breath the whole time I’m in there and pretending I’m a Navy SEAL on a mission, real professional stuff. The worst part is when you finally leave and your clothes smell like a toaster that’s seen some things, so you just have to live with stinking like a burnt appliance the rest of the day. Honestly, at this point I’m half convinced old server rooms are just how they store the secret to eternal life, but nobody mentions it because they don’t want us to know it smells like death. I’ve never actually started a fire drill over it, but I’ve definitely triple checked the breaker box on my way out, just in case.
