TIL data recovery services can cost more than the data's worth
My client's hard drive died and I tried a $300 recovery service that got nothing back. Should have just quoted them for a new SSD and moved on. Anyone else deal with shady recovery shops that overpromise?

That's rough, I've been burned the same way before...

The real problem is people keep trusting the same types of warning signs even after getting burned. Gotta change what you ignore first.
