The thermal paste trick that saved me 20 minutes on an old laptop

I was swapping a fan on a 2014 Dell Inspiron and the paste was like dried glue. I tried the usual credit card scrape and it took forever, then I remembered a tip from a forum about using a little isopropyl on a coffee filter. Wiped off in like 2 minutes, clean as new. Has anyone else found a weird shortcut for removing old thermal paste that beats the standard method?

Honestly, that just sounds like extra steps when a razor works fine.
