Spent $120 on a decent soldering station and it paid for itself after one mobo cap replacement
Picked up a Hakko FX-888D last month to replace my old Radio Shack iron that took forever to heat up, and just fixed a dead board from a 2012 Dell Optiplex that a client was about to toss - has anyone else found a piece of gear that surprisingly saved them more money than they expected?

Yeah a buddy fixed his dryer with a multimeter. Paid for itself day one.

Multimeter is one of those tools you never think you need until you actually need it. Fixed my washing machine that was throwing error codes left and right, turned out to be a bad thermistor. Cost me like three bucks to replace instead of calling a repair guy for a hundred and fifty. Now I keep two in the shop, one for work and one for home.
