Showerthought: I swapped a laptop's thermal paste with a graphite pad instead.

The CPU temps dropped 15 degrees, but now the GPU runs 10 degrees hotter. I think the pad isn't making full contact on the smaller die. Anyone run into this with hybrid cooling solutions?

I read somewhere that graphite pads need a certain amount of pressure to spread out and make good contact... maybe the mounting pressure is uneven across the two chips. Could be the laptop's cooler wasn't designed with pads in mind, so the GPU side just isn't getting squished enough. Might be worth trying a thin thermal paste layer on the pad to fill any gaps.

Graphite pads can be tricky to install evenly on two different sized chips.

Wait, the GPU runs hotter now? That's wild.
