Pro tip: don't trust the built-in Windows reset when a shop PC comes in crawling with junk
Got a Dell OptiPlex from a dental office on 5th Street about 3 weeks ago, running so slow the front desk girls were timing it with a stopwatch. I had two choices: hit the Windows reset and call it a win in an hour, or pull the drive and do a clean image from scratch. I went with the reset because the owner wanted it back the same afternoon, and two days later he called me saying it was worse than before, plus all their patient intake shortcuts were half-broken. Turns out the reset kept the old user profile junk and a startup list full of Bonjour and some print driver from 2014. Anyone else had a reset come back to bite them, or is it just me being lazy?
The reset kept the old user profile junk, yeah that's the whole problem right there. Windows reset only touches the OS files, it leaves user folders and startup stuff alone. Learned that the hard way too, now I just pull the drive and image it clean.
