Vent: almost had a bad day on a bridge job because of my harness
Was working on a bridge repair in Portland last month, 40 feet down in murky water. Halfway through my shift I noticed my harness D-ring was twisted under my weight belt. I had been hooking up like that for YEARS without thinking. A guy on the surface crew yelled down to check my gear and THATS when I saw it. Anyone else ever catch a bad habit like that before it turned into something serious?

Buddy had a twisted strap on a column once, caught it right as he leaned back.

Yeah man I totally feel you on this. I had a similar scare a few years back working on a bridge in New York. I was hooking my lanyard to the back D-ring without even thinking, just muscle memory from every job before. One day a buddy pointed out my front D-ring was loose and could have popped open if I had to take a hard fall. I literally felt sick thinking about how long Id been doing it wrong. Now I check every single connection before I even step off the ground. Its wild how easy it is to slip into bad habits when youve done something a thousand times.
