Spent a full shift in zero viz on the Fraser River, just feeling for bolts with my gloves.

Feeling for bolts with your gloves" is such a wild image. What were you even working on out there, some kind of barge or structure repair? That sounds like a long, slow, and honestly kind of spooky way to spend a shift.

Oh man, you nailed it, @piperb93. We were doing hull checks on an old supply boat in dry dock. Just you, a headlamp, and miles of cold steel plate, tracing every seam by hand. It gets so quiet you start hearing every little creak.

Reminds me of this one time I was helping a buddy patch up his old fishing boat, not in dry dock but on blocks in his backyard. We were underneath it, just him and me, and it was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I kept thinking I heard water dripping, which is a weird sound when you're on dry land. Turned out it was just my own sweat hitting the gravel... but for a second there, I thought the boat was haunted or something.
