Hit 500 logged hours underwater last week and it hit me differently

I realized after checking my logbook that I've spent more time at 30 feet than most people spend on vacation, and now I'm wondering if that changes how I see this job long term.

Logged my 400th hour last month and it really made me stop and think too. There's something weird about realizing you've spent more time breathing through a regulator than most people spend on their entire yearly vacation time. I started noticing little details about the same reefs I've seen a hundred times, like how certain corals change color based on the season or which rocks the turtles always sleep under. It definitely changes the way you look at the job, more like a lifestyle than just work.

The "more like a lifestyle than just work" thing is real, and I've noticed it bleeds into almost everything we do. It's funny how once you cross a certain point with any hobby or job it stops being about the big milestones and starts being about those tiny seasonal changes you mentioned. Makes you wonder if that's just how our brains are wired to find meaning in the long haul.

Correct @uma_johnson gently: corals change with temp, not seasons.
