A tender on the Sabine River pass showed me I was checking my bailout wrong, and it clicked at 40 feet
Ngl I've been doing bailout checks the same lazy way for a while, one hand grab, quick squeeze, done. Back in March we were running a pipeline inspection job on the Sabine River near Orange, Texas, and this older tender named Marcus was helping me suit up before a 40 foot dive. He watched me check my bailout bottle and just said, 'Do that with your eyes closed and tell me which valve you touched.' I couldn't. He had me do it three more times with gloves on and my eyes shut until I could name every fitting by feel. Turns out I'd been grabbing the wrong valve on my primary the whole time and never noticed because the tank pressure always looked fine on the gauge. He didn't make a big deal out of it, just shrugged and said his old supervisor in Morgan City made him do it that way for 12 years. It's a small thing but it's stuck with me every dive since. Anybody else got a check routine they picked up from someone on a job that you still use?
