That concrete sub's comment about my slab edges made me switch up my finishing approach
I used to always round my slab edges with a hand edger on every pour, but last week a seasoned concrete sub told me my rounded edges were causing water to pool near the joints on a parking lot job in Phoenix. He showed me how a straight edge with a slight chamfer drains way better and stops that ugly staining. Anyone else get feedback that totally changed how you finish concrete?

Oh, that's the kind of advice that sticks with you for years.

The first time I tried following advice like that was when I was 19 and my dad told me to always put 10 bucks a week into savings no matter what. @eric_murray26 it sounded so small and pointless back then but now that little habit has saved my butt more times than I can count. There was this one winter where my car broke down and I had just enough from those tiny weekly deposits to cover the tow and the repair. I still do it today even when money is tight because that one simple rule proved itself over and over again.
