Submittal review from hell, 47 pages of door hardware

Last month I sent a standard door hardware submittal to the GC for a 12 story office build in Charlotte. They sat on it for 3 weeks then returned it with 214 redlines, most of them asking for specs that contradict the original drawings. I called the architect and he said he never saw our schedule, the GC just added his own preferences. Had to redo the entire package over a weekend and eat $1,800 in my estimator's overtime. Anyone else dealing with GCs who invent requirements out of thin air?
