Rant: That foreman who swore by tape measures over lasers was right after 14 years in the field

Back in 2009 my first foreman in Phoenix told me, 'Lasers are for architects, tape is for builders,' and after three jobs last month where my laser read a stud 3/8 off due to a dirty lens, I finally see his point, so has anyone else dumped their laser for a good old steel tape on tight remodels?

Dirty lens got me too. I was all laser until last month, now tape lives in my pouch.

Tape is just the natural next step after you've been burned once. Same thing with extra batteries in the glovebox or a spare phone charger at work. Everyone learns the hard way that the fancy tool is only as good as its backup plan. Once you switch, you start noticing how many other folks are doing the same quiet surrender.
