Missing punch list items in walkthroughs are costing me 2 extra site visits

Last month in Austin I did a final walkthrough on a retail build and found the caulking at the storefront was never done. The GC claimed it was in the original scope but his punch list only had electrical and drywall. I've seen this on 4 of my last 6 projects, always the small items like sealants or threshold plates that fall through. It adds a day of travel each time plus rescheduling my crew. How do you guys handle verifying the full spec list before signing off on a walkthrough date?

The caulking at the storefront thing reminds me of a job where we found the threshold plate in a box in the back office after the owner already signed off. I started taking photos of every single item on the spec list before we even set a walkthrough date, and it’s cut my return trips way down. It’s boring work but beats burning a whole day driving back to fix a two dollar piece of metal.
