Just walked through a hotel renovation in Austin that had some wild framing choices

I was doing a walkthrough on a hotel job in Austin last weekend and saw they framed a load bearing wall with 2x4s spaced 24 inches. The GC said it passed inspection but I have never seen that hold up long term in commercial work. Has anyone else dealt with framing like this and did it cause problems down the road?

Jesus, 24 inch spacing on a load bearing wall in a hotel? That's insane.

Man I saw something similar on a job in San Antonio a few years back where they had this wild cantilevered balcony thing going on with 2x4s and the engineer just signed off on it like it was nothing. The whole thing felt bouncy when you walked on it, like a trampoline almost. I ran into the building manager last year and he said the drywall started cracking around the corners after about 18 months, nothing major but still sketchy. I guess if the inspector passes it the liability is on them but I wouldnt want to be the one sleeping in that room lmao.

Cheap framing and cheap coffee both end up cracking over time.
