Hot take: ditching my go-to caulk for a cheap brand actually cost me more in the long run

I was doing a bathroom remodel in Austin last Tuesday and ran out of my usual Sikaflex. Figured I'd grab whatever was on sale at the local hardware store to save 8 bucks. Halfway through the shower surround, the bead started cracking and pulling away from the tile. I had to rip it all out and redo the whole thing the next day, which cost me at least 3 extra hours and another tube of the good stuff. So much for that little savings. Anyone else ever regret switching sealants on a job?

Have you noticed how this same trap shows up everywhere, not just with caulk? It's the whole "save a little now, pay a lot later" pattern that gets me every time with cheap tools and discount paint. The 8 bucks I "saved" ended up costing me way more in time and frustration, proving that cutting corners upfront just doubles the work later.

My brother bought a cheap extension cord once, thing melted mid-project.

And that's the thing about electrical stuff - you ALWAYS want to buy the heavier gauge cord even if it costs more upfront. A 14-gauge cord is way safer for power tools than those skinny 18-gauge ones they sell at the dollar store. Trust me, paying an extra 10 bucks now beats dealing with a melted mess and possibly a house fire later.
