Foundation crack found under a brand new slab in Phoenix last Tuesday

I poured a 40 yard slab for a strip mall last week and five days later the GC points out a hairline fracture running from a control joint to the edge. Turns out the compacted fill had a soft spot right under that section about 8 inches deep. I had to saw cut a 4 foot square out and repour it with a high early mix to keep the schedule on track. Has anyone else dealt with subgrade issues showing up after the pour finished?

Read somewhere" huh, I've seen that soft spot stuff show up even after a perfect pour too, that repair sounds like a solid save.

Read somewhere that a lot of contractors actually pad their quotes because they expect you to haggle. Ever try countering their price or getting a second bid?
