Why does nobody talk about reading variants in reverse order?

Picked up a new run of Ultimate Spider-Man last month and decided to read the variant cover issues first before the main ones. I figured it would mess up the story but actually it made me notice details in the main issues I would have totally missed. Like seeing a background character on a variant then realizing they show up later in the main book. Has anyone else tried this or am I just weird about how I read comics?

Hell yeah that's a cool way to do it. I did the same thing with a Batman run once and it basically turned into a little easter egg hunt between the covers.

I found a Frank Miller run where the artist hid little symbols in the background of every other page. Turned into a whole game trying to spot them all before flipping to the next issue. Same kind of thing with a Spider-Man storyline where letters got scrambled in word balloons. It adds another layer to the reading experience that most people miss. Once you start looking for those details it changes how you see the whole comic.
