Vent: Had to choose between a mint copy of X-Men #94 or paying rent on time

Last month, my local shop got a near-perfect copy of X-Men #94, graded at a 9.2, for $800. My rent is $750. I stared at that book for a solid week, knowing I could swing it but my budget would be super tight. I ended up picking the rent, obviously, but it hurt. The shop owner texted me yesterday saying it sold to some collector from out of town. Now I'm just sitting here thinking about that cover I'll never own. Has anyone else had to pass on a grail book because of real life stuff?

What's worse, the book you missed or the fact you even had to think about it? I once spent my grocery money on a silver age Hulk and ate ramen for two weeks, so I get it. At least your landlord didn't get a dramatic speech about how the value of a key issue only appreciates.

That "ate ramen for two weeks" line is the real collector's grade, honestly.

Tbh "ate ramen for two weeks" just sounds like a choice, not a badge of honor. It's a comic book, not a life-or-death decision.

Ngl @the_jenny, you ever actually tried to budget a comic habit on minimum wage?
