That one time a reader told me I overthought fight scenes
About 2 years ago a guy on a forum said my comics had way too much internal dialogue during action sequences. He wrote like a 3 paragraph breakdown of one panel where my hero is punching a villain but thinking about his childhood. At first I got defensive but then I went back and looked at my first 12 issues. Sure enough I had like 5 word balloons in scenes that should move fast. Now I cut 90% of the thinking and let the art do the work. Have you ever gotten feedback that changed your whole approach to storytelling?

Read somewhere that fight scenes in comics should read like a punch, not a lecture. Changed how I look at pacing in my own stuff.

Honestly I used to be the opposite. I thought readers needed every thought explained or they'd miss some deep character thing. But that forum guy was right, if the action stops so the hero can reflect on his mom's spaghetti recipe, the scene dies. Now I just leave a tiny hint of emotion in the art, like a clenched jaw or a glance, and let people fill in the blanks themselves. It feels way more natural and the pacing just flies.
