Saw a guy at a con carrying 40 pounds of back issues in a grocery bag
Watched that bag split open outside the convention center. He was trying to save $8 on a tote. Has anyone else seen collectors treat their books like trash?

Can't believe he'd rather risk 40 pounds of comics than just buy the tote. That's a disaster waiting to happen right there.

Man, I feel this in my bones. I once saw a guy at a convention try to carry his haul in a flimsy plastic shopping bag from the food court. Snapped right at the handle, sent a Jimmy Olsen #69 right into a puddle by the bathroom. The owner just stood there staring at it, like he was trying to will the water damage away. I told him, "Shoulda got the tote, dude," and he just grumbled something about the comic being a "minor key." Minor key, major headache.

Risk 40 pounds of comics" is exactly the phrase that gets me. I see this kind of penny-wise, pound-foolish thinking all the time with collectors. It's like they'll spend a hundred bucks on a rare issue but then balk at five bucks for a bag and board, or in this case, a cheap tote bag. @grantadams is right, that's just asking for a busted spine or a water stain from dropping the whole pile. Big picture thinking seems to go right out the window when people get focused on saving a few dollars in the moment.
