PSA: That comic signing at Cosmic Collectibles turned into a total mess
I went to a signing event at Cosmic Collectibles downtown last Saturday expecting a chill afternoon. About 200 people showed up for a guest who was only scheduled for 2 hours. They let people line up outside for 45 minutes before saying they might not get to everyone. I saw three guys almost throw punches over a sketch variant cover. The owner just shrugged and said "we didn't expect this many." Now I always call ahead to check how they actually handle crowds before I show up. Has anyone else dealt with a signing turning into a free-for-all like that?

Are you sure the whole thing was really that bad? I mean, yeah it sucks when you drive all that way and wait around, but comic stores are usually just a couple of dudes working a register and hoping for a chill Saturday. It's not like they have a whole event planning team. Last year I had to wait over an hour in the sun for a guest just to get a quick signature and a handshake, but I just brought some water and a snack and it was fine. I feel like people get way too heated over this stuff, it's a comic signing not the super bowl.

Did they at least let you know before the guest left how many people they'd actually get to? I had a similar thing happen at a signing for a horror artist last fall, waited over an hour and then they just said "sorry we're done" without any warning. Felt like such a waste of a Saturday. It's rough when the store doesn't have a plan B for when things get crazy like that.
