Overheard a guy at my LCS say modern variant covers are ruining collecting
He was ranting about how there were 14 different covers for the new Absolute Batman and it made me wonder if chasing rare covers is more about FOMO than actually reading the story anymore, has anyone else noticed collectors skipping the issue just to flip the variants?

Dude, that guy at your LCS was totally right. I saw the same thing with the new Ultimate Spider-Man, there were like 8 covers and half the stack was just the regular one. People were digging through the bin just to find the 1:50 variant and then walking out without even flipping through the issue. It’s honestly exhausting watching people treat a comic shop like a stock market floor. I had a guy next to me bragging about how he flipped a Harley Quinn #1 virgin cover for triple the price, and he couldn't even name the artist who drew it.
