My local shop owner talked me into a run of Firefly comics I'd written off

I always thought the TV show was just okay, but he insisted the Boom Studios run fleshes out the world way better. After 6 issues I had to admit he was right, the writing on them is legit. Anybody else get surprised by a comic adaptation of something they thought was meh?

Are we really calling a comic book run "serious" now? I like a good story as much as the next person, but it's still just a comic based off a TV show that got canceled. The original show was fine for what it was, but it wasn't anything groundbreaking. Comics are a different medium, so of course the writing is going to be tighter and more focused than a network TV show. I guess I just don't see the point in getting worked up over it. If you enjoyed the issues, that's cool, but let's not pretend it's some masterpiece.

Better off just reading it for what it is and moving on. Comparing a comic to a TV show is apples to oranges anyway, especially when one had budget constraints and network notes. Enjoyed it or didn't, no reason to stress over it being called serious or not.
