My local shop in Phoenix had a huge sale and it turned into a total mess
Last Saturday, I went to my usual comic spot, Desert Comics, for their 50% off back issue sale. The line was around the block by 9 AM, and the second the doors opened, it was chaos. People were grabbing stacks, boxes fell over, and I saw two guys nearly get into a fight over a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300. I just wanted a few X-Men issues, but the vibe was so aggressive it totally killed my fun. I ended up leaving with nothing, feeling more stressed than excited. It made me think about how the hunt for a deal can sometimes ruin the whole hobby. Has anyone else had a comic shop event go bad like that? How do you handle the crowd when you just want to browse?

Ever think shops WANT that crazy vibe on purpose?

Watched the same thing happen at a record store's Black Friday sale last year, people turning into animals over marked-down vinyl. It feels like any event promising a big discount now just flips a switch in folks, turning a chill hobby spot into a weirdly tense cage match. Makes you wonder if saving twenty bucks is worth the hassle of dealing with that kind of mood. I've started just avoiding those days and paying full price for my peace of mind.
