My little cousin asked me why I only collect modern comics

I was showing him my long boxes and he pointed at my wall of 90s foil covers and said 'these are cool, but where are the old ones with the weird ads?' It hit different because I realized I'd been chasing value over the stories I actually like. Anyone else get called out by a kid for their collecting habits?

Ever think the chase for value makes us forget what we actually enjoy?

That part about chasing value over the stories you like is so real. I see it with everything now, not just comics. People buy the trendy tool brand for their garage just to show it off, not because it's the best one for the job. The kid's right, the weird old ads are part of the fun.

Exactly what you said about the trendy tool brand. My brother spent a fortune on some fancy drill set and he barely uses it. Meanwhile, my old Craftsman stuff from 15 years ago still works fine. People forget that VALUE is supposed to be about what works for YOU, not what makes you look good. The whole flex culture ruins everything eventually.
