My $200 'rare' comic collection turned out to be worthless
Bought a mystery box from a guy online last spring. Paid 200 bucks for a stack of '90s comics he swore were valuable. Got home and found most had coupons cut out or coverless issues. Even the ones in good shape are worth maybe 10 cents each. Anyone else get burned on those mystery bundles?

Bro that hurts just reading it. I got a similar deal once on a lot of "silver age" keys and half of them were store display copies with holes punched through the covers. So many of these mystery bundles are just people cleaning out their garage and hoping you don't know the difference. Nothing stings more than realizing you paid a premium for a stack of beat up junk.

Got a "warehouse find" mystery box once from a guy who swore it was untouched inventory. Turned out it was mostly 90s overstock with water damage and a few Spider-Man comics that had someone's lunch stuck between the pages. Never trusting a bargain bin in a storage unit again.

Oh man, I gotta disagree with everyone here. You paid 200 bucks for a lesson in how the game works. Ive bought plenty of mystery lots knowing full well they were probably junk. Its like gambling except you get to touch the cards afterward. The thrill is in the unknown, not the payout. If you wanted a safe investment you would have bought a mutual fund.
