I was gatekeeping my own kid from comics for years without knowing it

My 10 year old asked me why I only had 'old man books' like my 1980s X-Men runs and nothing with Miles Morales. I looked at my collection in Portland and it hit me, I was stuck in my own era. Has anyone else had to update their whole mindset about what 'real' comics are for a new generation?

My kid asked the same thing a few years back. I started taking him to our local shop and just let him pick anything that looked cool. Seeing his excitement over the new stuff totally changed my view.

Yeah, that's the best way to do it. My little cousin was only into the movies, so I grabbed a random Moon Knight trade off the shelf. He went nuts over the art and the weird story, stuff the movies never showed. Now he's the one dragging me to the comic store every month. It's cool to see what catches their eye.
