Got roasted at a shop in Portland for bagging my issues, now I use boards and it stings
Hit a comic shop on SE Division in Portland last month and pulled a stack of Uncanny X-Men. Cashier watched me slide them into poly bags and said 'you're creasing every spine, dude.' I didn't believe him until I got home and saw 3 of the 6 had fold lines right at the staple. Now I use backing boards and top loaders for anything over $20 and my wallet hates me. Where do you all draw the line between protecting books and just going broke on supplies?
Boards are cheap, spine ticks are not. I put anything worth more than ten bucks in a bag and board combo, top loaders only for the really pricey stuff or keys. A 100 pack of boards runs like fifteen bucks, so that's pennies per book. Way less than eating the loss when a nice copy turns into a mid grade copy overnight. Your wallet will forgive you once you flip one book for full value instead of taking a hit.
