Can we talk about the guy at the comic shop who kept pulling keys from the quarter bin
Overheard a collector at Bedrock City in Houston saying he found a first appearance of a minor X-Men villain in a quarter bin last week. Makes me wonder how many hidden gems I am walking past while chasing overpriced books on eBay.

Honestly that sounds about right. I pulled a full run of Claremont's early X-Men from a dollar bin once, had a first appearance of Mystique in there and didn't even know it until I got home. Tbh those quarter bins are where the real magic happens, everyone sleeps on them while fighting over graded books. Ngl I still check every single bin I see, even if my wife thinks I'm crazy.

and honestly that's what keeps me coming back too. I found a copy of New Mutants 98 in a beat up longbox at a flea market once, guy just wanted a buck for it and I almost didn't flip through that section. my buddies give me grief for taking forever at shops but those finds make it all worth it every single time.

Those quarter bins are where the real magic happens" is the truest thing I've ever read about this hobby. The people fighting over graded books are missing half the fun, there's something about digging through a messy bin and actually finding a gem that beats buying something slabbed every time. I keep telling my friends the same thing, you never know what someone else's trash is gonna be until you actually look.
