Appreciation post: that old spinner rack at the corner drugstore in Scranton

I was cleaning out my parents basement and found a beat up 1987 issue of Daredevil #255 with the Frank Miller cover art. It got me thinking about how I first got into comics, not from a shop but from that wire spinner rack near the pharmacy counter. Kids today have every issue digitized or ordered online, but there was something about flipping through those flimsy pages while your mom shopped that made every find feel special. Anyone else grow up grabbing comics from a drugstore or gas station spinner rack, or am I just dating myself here?

I heard a podcast recently about how comic book stores basically killed the spinner rack era, and it made me kinda sad. There was this one gas station in my town that had a rusty rack with like five issues of Green Lantern mixed in with old car magazines. I remember buying a random issue of Secret Wars there and thinking I found buried treasure. The paper always smelled faintly of gasoline and dust, which honestly added to the whole experience.
