A fellow collector told me my comic bags were ruining my books and I didn't believe him until he showed me

I had been using those cheap poly bags on my Silver Age issues for like 3 years and thought it was fine. He pulled out one of my ASM #50s and showed me the acid burn marks along the spine from the bag material. Has anyone else had a long-time collector call them out on something basic you thought you had right?

I thought the same thing until I saw his ASM #50 and yeah, that changed my whole view on bags.

Your Mylar bags are the way to go for anything valuable, those cheap poly ones are basically acid traps waiting to happen. I switched after seeing yellowing on a 70s Batman I had bagged for only a year.

Man, that's rough. A buddy of mine had the same thing happen with a Silver Age Flash issue he kept in a standard poly bag for like two years. He opened it up one day and the whole cover had this weird yellow haze on it, especially around the edges. He was pretty bummed about it because that book was supposed to be a 9.0 before he bagged it. I told him the same thing, those cheap bags are just asking for trouble with anything older.
