My neighbor's kid just asked me why I drink 'bean soup'
I was on my porch with a fresh pour-over from my local roaster, Black Oak Coffee. This eight-year-old from next door pointed at my mug and said, 'That's just hot bean soup, right?' I tried to explain the process from cherry to cup, but he just kept nodding like I was describing magic. It hit different because I realized how weird our hobby must look from the outside. We're all just obsessed with hot water filtered through ground-up seeds. Has a kid ever said something that made you question the whole coffee thing?

Hot bean soup" is a new one for me, but "dirt tea" is perfect. My niece saw my grinder once and told her mom I was making "noisy dirt," Lucaslee. It's all the same to a kid.

Saw a tweet once where someone called it "dirt tea." Kind of hard to argue with that logic.

Claire_wells87, that name makes it sound like a fancy drink you'd overpay for, not something you'd find in the ground.
