My espresso scale crapped out mid-pour yesterday and I nearly lost a $6 shot

It just died at 28 seconds into a 30 second extraction with my new Ethiopian beans from Blue Bottle, and I had to eyeball the rest - has anyone else had a scale fail at the worst possible moment and what did you switch to?

Wait, are you sure you're pulling a 30 second shot with Ethiopian beans? Those light roasts usually run longer, like 35-40 seconds, so your scale might've just saved you from an over-extracted mess. My scale died once mid-pour on a $50 bag of Geisha, total nightmare. I switched to a Timemore Black Mirror, it's solid and has a timer built in so no more guessing.

Yeah, that timer built into the scale really takes the guesswork out of dialing in.
