My burr grinder decided to quit on me mid-brew yesterday

I was making my morning cup, the usual routine, and the motor just made this sad whining noise and stopped. It's a Baratza Encore I've had for about four years. The beans were stuck halfway through, and I had to take the whole thing apart with a screwdriver to get them out. I spent an hour cleaning every part, thinking it was just a jam, but no luck. The repair video online looks like a whole project, and I'm not sure I have the right tools. Had to use my old blade grinder as a backup, and the coffee tasted like bitter dust. Has anyone fixed one of these themselves, or is it time to just get a new one?

Did you check if the thermal fuse blew? That's what happened with my Encore after about three years. I found a video that showed me exactly where it was and how to test it with a multimeter. The part was like five bucks on Amazon and took maybe twenty minutes to swap out. I'm not handy at all and I managed it with just a screwdriver and some patience. Might be worth a look before you drop money on a new one.

Dude, same thing happened to my machine last year. I was about to toss it and spent like two hours watching repair videos before finding the thermal fuse trick. Five bucks and a screwdriver later, it was running good as new, felt like a genius for a whole week.

That's the kind of fix @dylan_bell found that saves so much money.
