Just realized my grinder was the problem all along
I was in my kitchen last Tuesday pulling my hair out because every pour-over I made came out bitter and over-extracted. Turns out my cheap blade grinder was creating tons of fines that clogged the filter at the bottom. I switched to a $20 hand burr grinder from Amazon and my V60 tastes way cleaner now, has anyone else dealt with uneven grind size ruining their morning cup?

Wait does that $20 hand grinder actually hold up for daily use or does it wear out fast? I've been tempted to ditch my electric one but worried the cheaper manual ones would break in a month lol.

Honestly, "wear out fast" is the perfect way to put it. I had one of those $20 grinders and it was fine for about three months, then the handle got wobbly and the burrs started slipping. You're not wrong to be tempted, but the savings aren't worth it if you're grinding every day. The plastic gears inside just can't handle that kind of use. I'd say look for something in the $40 to $50 range if you want something that'll stick around. That's where you start getting metal parts that don't break down.

I totally get what you're saying about the plastic gears. My buddy @finleyw99 actually bought that exact $20 grinder I had, and his handle snapped clean off in like two months. It's funny because he thought he was being smart by skipping the electric one, but now he's back to using his old blade grinder. I ended up going with a $45 one with ceramic burrs and it's been solid for over a year now. The metal gears really do make all the difference when you're grinding every morning. It's one of those things where you really do get what you pay for with coffee gear.
