I used to think a French press was the only way to make coffee, but a trip to Seattle 4 months ago proved me wrong.

Look, I get the appeal of a clean pour over, but that "muddy" feel from a French press is part of the charm for me. It gives the coffee a full body and richness that paper filters just strip away. I actually like the little bit of silt at the bottom, it feels more honest and less processed. All that clarity from a Chemex just tastes a bit thin and weak in comparison. Give me a strong, gritty cup any day.

Ever try a metal filter for your pour over?

Tell me what you tried in Seattle. Was it a pour over at one of those tiny Capitol Hill spots, or did you get a straight espresso from a serious looking barista? I'm always looking for new methods because my French press can be a bit muddy sometimes.

Oh man, that "muddy" French press feeling is exactly why I switched! @anthonymurray, I actually tried a Chemex pour over at a spot in Ballard, and the clarity was amazing. It really makes each flavor note pop without any silt at the bottom.
