Had to choose between a pour-over kit and a french press at a garage sale in Omaha

I mean, it was 7am and this lady had both for $10 each, but I only had $15 in my wallet. I grabbed the french press because I figured it was less fuss, and honestly the rubber seal is shot. Now I'm drinking gritty coffee and eyeing the pour-over cone my neighbor uses, has anyone else made a gear gamble like this and lost?

Gritty coffee woke me up, but a pour-over would've been smoother. Changed my mind on fussy gear.
