Had a chat with my uncle last weekend that stuck with me

My uncle Joe has been roasting his own beans for like 40 years, and he told me I overthink my morning pour over too much. He said just use a mug and hot water, stop timing everything. It hit different cause he pulled out this old chipped cup and made the best cup I've had in months. Anyone else ever get humbled like that by an older coffee person?

That part about "stop timing everything" really got me, because I used to be the exact opposite. I had this whole ritual with scales and timers thinking that's what made good coffee. But after reading this I tried just eyeballing it with a regular mug and honestly it tasted better and felt less stressful.

Wait, your uncle roasted his own beans for 40 years and still uses a chipped mug? That's wild to me. I mean, I get the whole "keep it simple" thing, but who actually has a favorite chipped mug they still use? That's some real dedication to a cup right there. I'd be too worried about cutting my lip on it. But I guess if the coffee's that good, who cares about a little chip?
