Found a local roaster in my town that changed how I think about freshness

I picked up a bag of beans from a small roastery in Cleveland last month and the date on it was only 2 days old. Now I can't go back to supermarket coffee that's been sitting for months. Anyone else notice a huge difference with fresh roasted beans?

Oh man, you've gone and ruined yourself. Welcome to the club of people who can't drink grocery store coffee anymore without making a sad face. I grabbed a bag from a roaster in Detroit once that was literally still warm from the roast, and now I'm that annoying guy sniffing beans before I buy them like a weirdo. It's a slippery slope, friend, pretty soon you'll be buying a grinder and googling "water temperature for pour over" at 2 AM.

Did that warm bag actually taste noticeably better than if you let it rest a few days? I've heard conflicting stuff about brewing beans same-day versus giving them a week to offgas, but never tried it myself since I don't live near a roaster. Your Detroit bag is making me wonder if I'm missing out.
