Does anyone else find it weird when people store beans in the freezer?

I keep seeing posts online where folks toss their whole bag of expensive single origin beans right into the freezer. From my experience working retail, moisture is the enemy of anything stored long term. I ruined a $25 bag from a roaster in Portland that way because the beans absorbed freezer smells and tasted off. Am I the only one who thinks an airtight cabinet is better than the freezer?

Used to be firmly in the cabinet camp myself until a friend who runs a small roastery set me straight. She told me the key is an airtight container, not just tossing the bag in there. Now I vacuum seal my beans in single-use portions before freezing, and it's a game changer for keeping them fresh for weeks. The moisture and smell problem is real if you don't prep them right, but with the proper setup it works great. Still wouldn't recommend just throwing the bag in the freezer though, that's asking for trouble.

Whoa hold up, vacuum sealing is great but single-use portions kind of defeats the purpose if you're doing it right. Frozen beans don't take on moisture or smells if they're in an airtight container, so you can just scoop what you need and toss the bag back in.
