Am I the only one who thinks a French press at a diner beats a $6 latte?
Last Saturday I was at a diner in Boise and asked for coffee. The server brought out a little French press and a timer, said to wait 4 minutes, and walked off. My buddy at the same table paid $6 for a latte that showed up in a paper cup and tasted like hot milk. I sat there pressing the plunger down slow and the whole thing cost me $2.50 with free refills. But a barista told me once that diner presses sit too long and get bitter, and honestly she might be right because my second cup was rough after 10 minutes. So which is it, is a cheap press at a greasy spoon real coffee or just luck depending on who is working that shift?
