Stuck between Python and JavaScript for my first language - here's what I picked

I spent like 2 weeks going back and forth on this. Python seemed easier to start with but JavaScript would let me build stuff for the web right away. I ended up going with Python first because a buddy said it would teach me good habits. 3 months in and I can make little tools but I still can't make anything that looks cool. Anyone else have a hard time picking their first language? What made you choose one over the other?

Oh man, that's rough but yeah Python is a solid place to start.

Rough how though? Learning Python is like... learning to cook eggs. Sure it's a starting point but it's not exactly climbing Everest. Tons of people pick it up over a weekend and build something basic. What's the actual barrier here?
