Changed my mind about buying a fancy IDE right away
I dropped $120 on a professional editor before I could even write a basic loop. The tutorials I was following all used free software anyway, so it just sat there. What's a better free tool to start with?

What kind of coding are you trying to learn first? For web stuff, VS Code is free and everyone uses it, but even a basic text editor like Notepad++ can force you to really understand the code without any fancy help.

Grab VS Code, it's free and does everything you need without being confusing. I made the same mistake buying fancy software before I knew what I was doing. Start with their basic tutorials and you'll pick up the helpful features as you go, instead of getting lost in them.

Yeah, felix147 has a point about starting simple. A basic editor makes you learn the actual code instead of just clicking buttons.
